| Breast reduction is a common procedure in both younger and older women. It can be required for young girls with heavy breasts or for older women whose breasts have increased with age and pregnancies.
With large breasts it can cause discomfort in their neck, shoulders and back and impede their activities especially sports; also the weight of the breasts in a bra can cause unsightly indentations in the shoulders. During summer months unpleasant rashes can be a problem under the breasts. Often women with large, uncomfortable breasts can find that they need to wear a good supportive bra even whilst sleeping for comfort and wear loose, baggy clothing to help conceal their breasts.
Often women can be so unhappy and embarrassed by their breast size that it can affect several aspects of their life on a daily basis from clothes shopping, sporting activities, intimate relationships, to confidence within the work place.
We can offer a confidential medical consultation where you will be assessed for your suitability for the procedure; you will be talked through the whole process in words that you can understand. We will assess your skin quality, your stature, to help you decide what will be the best size for you. During your consultation we will show you photographs of other ladies’ results and discuss all of the pre and post operative care, detailing the pros and cons so that you may make an informed decision.
The surgery will be performed by one of our highly experienced, fully qualified cosmetic plastic surgeons whom you will have already met at your consultation. All of our surgeons are registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) on their specialist register for plastic/cosmetic surgery. Their details are available for you to check prior to you surgery.
A general anaesthetic will be required and an overnight stay.
One to two weeks will be required off work depending on the type of job you do and you will be required to wear a supportive bra post operatively for several weeks.
Your after care plan will be formulated by the Registered General Nurse in conjunction with your surgeon and there is always a nurse/doctor on call for you 24hours per day should you need advice post operatively.
